Who are we?
We are a group of 10 first year Physician Assistant Students from Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY. We will be working with New York providers as well as one Nicaraguan physician to oversee our medical efforts. We are looking forward to providing medical service in Nicaragua.
For our medical mission, we will be traveling to Chacraseca, Nicaragua to spend a week in various clinics of the area. We will be working alongside Dr. Reyna Somarriba from Nicaragua within each clinic we visit. During the week, we will travel to a different clinic each day to increase access to quality healthcare for the population.
Not only will we be providing medical care to communities, but we will also be engaging students in well-visits and health education lessons to create sustainable health awareness.
These projects are important to further the access of health care and to instill continuing health education throughout the Chacraseca area. While at the same time, these experiences will allow for us to expand our own understanding of health as future and current medical professionals.
How can you help?
Your donations will directly contribute to purchasing prescription medicines, vitamins, and medical supplies for each clinic we visit. We will need a minimum of $3000 to purchase all necessary medications and vitamins to hand out to every patient, as well as medical equipment to provide quality physical examinations on all patients.
Your support is much appreciated by us students and the entire community we will be working with!
